"I'm glad I didn’t wait to start the course because that would have been more of my life wasted."

Life! program in your workplace
Workplace health programs benefit both employees and their employers. In fact evidence shows that organisations with comprehensive workplace health promotion programs experience the following benefits:
- up to 35 per cent decrease in sick days
- healthy employees are nearly three times more productive than unhealthy employees
- unhealthy employees take up to nine times more sick leave than their healthy colleagues.
24 per cent of Victorian workers are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and a further 43 per cent are at medium risk*
The good news is that in most cases type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed. Diabetes Australia – Vic is committed to reducing the incidence and onset of type 2 diabetes in Victorian workplaces.
The Life! course is an evidence based program, delivered free of charge in the workplace, by certified health professionals trained in diabetes prevention. Each worker will be provided with a workbook, consisting of materials and activities relating to nutrition, physical activity, relaxation and general health and wellbeing. This workbook has been developed using health psychology theories of behaviour change and supported by adult learning principles. Workers will engage in goal setting activities and be given the tools to make manageable and sustainable changes to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. There are five group sessions that equip participants with the skills, knowledge, support and expert advice needed to adopt healthier lifestyle habits, with the aim of reducing their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Life! group course sessions can be delivered before work, incorporated into lunch time or after hours. We will work with organisations to tailor the course to find the best fit for their workplace and staff. A suitable room will be required for each session.

“The Life program was a success at Braeside and it definitely made a real difference to the majority who participated. It's amazing the positive impact it has on your health by cutting out fat and moving your body (exercise).”
Operations Manager Scott Henderson, BlueScope Steel
“The people who participated in the Life! Program were at first a little hesitant about doing the program with work colleagues but the team from CBI were excellent from the first session of obtaining commitment and cooperation from participants. All participants became very supportive and encouraging of each other and the improvement in weight & waist measurements even for a 6 week period were very very positive. Without the supportive and non threatening environment created by the CBI presenters these improvements would not have been achieved.”
